Metallica Fans in India Started a Riot . . . When a Show Was Canceled at the Last Minute Over Security ConcernsMETALLICA was supposed to play their first gig ever in India on Friday, but it was canceled at the last minute due to "security concerns."Â Specifically, a barrier in front of the stage collapsed, and couldn't be repaired.
Around 25,000 fans were at the venue, but the band never took the stage.
The fans were NOT pleased . . . and "dozens" of them raided the stage and vandalized equipment. CHAOS ensued. The rioters trashed instruments and the sound system, and they threw bottles at the digital display screens.
Metallica initially planned on rescheduling the show for the next night, Saturday . . . but the concert organizers weren't able to get a permit in time.
Metallica issued this statement: Quote, "We [were] very excited and ready to play our first show ever in India . . .
"However, we were notified that there was a serious question as to whether the show could proceed with regard to the safety of the concert audience. Our first and foremost concern is always for the safety of you, the fans."
Metallica did finally give up their Indian virginity yesterday, at a separate, previously scheduled gig in a different city. (--That one happened in Bangalore. Friday's show was supposed to happen in Gurgaon.)
Four people from the promotion company have been arrested for fraud, cheating people and breach of trust. They also oversold the venue and didn't tell fans about the cancellation in a timely manner.

Steven Tyler's not looking too pretty after passing out in his shower on Tuesday in Paraguay and suffering a black eye, cuts to his face and the loss of two teeth.
His tour manager called the American embassy to find the best hospital and once there he was stitched up and had dental implants put in. The dentist, Dr. Maria Bastos, said he was "friendly and humble... He surprised me with his cheerfulness." Tyler blames the fall on dehydration caused by food poisoning. As a result, Aerosmith postponed their show that night, but made it up Wednesday. Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry was also proud of Tyler, saying, "He's amazing... a real trooper. [He] even played harp with his busted lip. My mind was blown. He put on one of his best shows ever." Yesterday (Thursday), Tyler spoke with Matt Laueron NBC's Today show saying, "Short of having my legs taken off, people are going to expect me on stage no matter what. I went out on stage and I wore my sunglasses for the first song. I took them off and the crowd roared." When asked if wasn't dehydration that caused him to pass out, rather than a drug relapse, Tyler said, "Being in the program, it's something we have to expect. I went public with my problems only to address them head on. You know, people thinking that is natural and normal, [it] still bothers me a little. It's something I have to deal with the rest of my life."

Remember the guy in "Police Academy" who did all the crazy sound effects with his voice? Well, his name is MICHAEL WINSLOW and he's still around. And he's still AWESOME.
--He was on a talk show in Norway the other day, and did a pretty amazing version of "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin. A guy on acoustic guitar played along. But Winslow did all the singing . . . and it was spot on.
--But that wasn't even the best part. He also added the distortion, and did a crazy guitar solo.

A Kids Band Played Metallica's "Enter Sandman" at a Beer Festival . . . and ROCKED It!
I think we've officially found the coolest kids in the world: There's a new video online of a bunch of eight to ten-year-olds playing METALLICA'S "Enter Sandman" at a beer festival. And for kids, they can play. They're called "The Mini Band," and the girl guitarist does a sweet solo about two-and-a-half minutes in.

Shannon Tweed and Gene Simmons will formalize their 28-year relationship on October 1st at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, California at 5:30 p.m.
In July, on the finale of the sixth season of the Simmons reality show, Family Jewels, he got down on one knee in Belize and proposed, which caused Shannon to gasp. While viewers won't see her answer until season seven premieres on October 4th, she'll already be a married woman by then.
The invitation is from the couple's children, Nick and Sophie, who also designed it. Nick drew a family picture and Sophie wrote the message, which says, "Classy Cocktail Attire Requested, although we know some Rockstar attire will be worn... There will no longer be a Team Tweed or a Team Simmons, but instead a Team Tweed-Simmons."
This is the first marriage for both. Simmons is 62 and claims to have slept with more than 2,000 women, and Shannon, a former Playboy Playmate and onetime girlfriend of the magazine's publisher, Hugh Hefner, is 54. Here is the official invite:
Meet John Taylor. He's a guitar player. John can play the guitar really fast; like really, really fast. In fact, he just became the world's fastest guitar player. Watch him destroy the record here. Allegedly.

It sucks when you're trying to enjoy a concert and some jackasses start fighting in the crowd. It's annoying, it's distracting, and it can take the fun out of the show. Unfortunately, a lot of time nobody does anything about it.
Well, DAVE GROHL did something about it the other night . . . and he went all out.

Steven Tyler says Joe Perry joined him for a little drug party three years ago. He says they were working on a new album in 2008 when they snorted prescription pills, which left Perry unable to play the guitar and Tyler unable to sing.
Tyler says, "It was just like 30 years before. I whipped out mine, he whipped out his, and we got high together again. I say to Joe, 'Wow, man, how you been, it's been, what, 17 years since we got high together?'"
In other Tyler news, he will release his first solo single in the U.S. on May 10th. Tyler says he can hear "It Feels So Good" "coming out of people's cars this summer." The video, which he shot on Tuesday in L.A., will premiere on American Idol. Tyler wrote the song with Marti Frederiksen, who has also been working on material for a new Aerosmith album. I met legendary photographer Ross Halfin today...he's here in town hangin' with Brian Wheat. Ross has shot everyone from AC/DC to The Who, and everybody in between. He spent most of the 80's touring with bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, and Motley Crue. But he's not just a rock photographer...check out his amazing work at rosshalfin.com. According to The Pulse of Radio, Jimmy Page's 1971 solo to LED ZEPPELIN's "Stairway To Heaven" topped the Gibson.com list of the "Top 50 Guitar Solos Of All Time." Coming in at No. 2 is Eddie Van Halen's 1978 groundbreaking instrumental "Eruption" from VAN HALEN's self-titled debut, with Jimi Hendrix's solo on his 1968 cover of BOB DYLAN's "All Along The Watchtower" rounding out the Top 3.
Hendrix made the list four times â the most of any guitarist. Eric Clapton scored three times with solos for tracks with CREAM, THE BEATLES, and DEREK & THE DOMINOES. In addition to his runner-up spot with "Eruption", Van Halen's 1982 solo on MICHAEL JACKSON's "Beat It" came in at No. 50.
Jimmy Page â whose solos to LED ZEPPELIN's "Since I've Been Loving You", "Heartbreaker" and "Whole Lotta Love" also made the list â says that after all the success LED ZEPPELIN had, the real reward has been that the music has lasted so well: "The most satisfying, the most rewarding part of it, is having been part of music like that, which has stood up to the test of time. Every musician hopes that their music will hold up. And it's wonderful."
Peter Frampton has been close friends with Page since the mid-1960s. He frequently watched ZEPPELIN record in the early '70s at London's Olympic Studios, while taking breaks from his own recordings and was consistently impressed with Jimmy Page's guitar technique: "He's a very well-rounded player. His technique on acoustic is phenomenal. And he uses various different open tunings. He tunes his guitar down and there's a special 'Jimmy Page' tuning (laughs) that he uses on a lot of the stuff."

Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer in May, and his Encino home has just been put on the market this week for $3.333 million. The home has five bedrooms and five bathrooms, over 5,000 square feet of living space, and was built in the style of an English manor. Usually listings like to boast about how new all the appliances are, but this one highlights antique features: "200 year old wood [floors] from France, pub bar from the Kings Arms in Chiqwell Essex, England c. 1820, & custom stained antique windows from the 18th & 19th centuries." Don't forget the antique cathedral windows in the master bedroom, circa 1790! As is befitting a rock legend, it also comes equipped with a custom music studio.

Cover bands are a dime a dozen, but sometimes you come across a musician playing the fair and hotel circuit that makes you wonder, "Why isn't this guy in stadiums and arenas?" Rick K. and the Allnighters is a terrific band, but animated,over-the-top drummer Steve Moore is really worth the price of admission.

The recording industry knows that not every musician is suitable for the role of sexy cover model. So, we get unintentionally hilarious/horrifying results like THESE...
Ronnie James Dio, one of the distinctive voices of hard rock, is dead at the age of 67. Dio died Sunday morning after suffering stomach cancer. Dio's wife and manager Wendy posted a note on his website Sunday afternoon saying, "Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us."The diminutive singer, whose height was given as five-foot-four, was born Ronald James Padavona in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. His family moved to Cortland, New York early in his life. As a teenager he played in various rockabilly bands and took his stage name in 1961 for Ronnie Dio and the Prophets. When that band broke up in 1967, he and Prophets guitarist Nick Pantas started a new band called the Electric Elves, which became Elf in 1969 and went on to do shows opening for Deep Purple. Dio's vocals caught the ear of Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, who later formed Rainbow with Dio and other members of Elf. Dio sang on three Rainbow albums and is heard on tracks like "Man on the Silver Mountain" and "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll."Dio left Rainbow in 1978 and became Ozzy Osbourne's replacement in Black Sabbath the following year. This version of Sabbath released two albums -- Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules -- before Dio and drummer Vinny Appice quit in 1982 to form the band Dio. That band's first album, Holy Diver, was their most popular and contained the hit "Rainbow in the Dark." Dio was the band's only constant member over a 10-album career.Dio rejoined Black Sabbath for the Dehumanizer album and tour in 1992, but quit again when the group agreed to open for Ozzy Osbourne at the end of his No More Tours Tour in November 1992. Dio worked with his Sabbath bandmates in 2006 to record three songs for a compilation called The Dio Years and followed it up with a tour in 2007, but for legal reasons they called themselves Heaven and Hell. The quartet released a studio album last year called The Devil You Know. Heaven and Hell had planned on touring this summer, but those plans were canceled earlier this month because of Dio's health issues.A visibly frail Dio made his last known public appearance at last month's taping of the Revolver Golden Gods Awards at L.A.'s Club Nokia, where he won Best Vocalist for The Devil You Know. Accepting the award, he told the crowd, "It's great to be back among people again. It's been awhile, and I can't wait to get back on stage again." Unfortunately, it wasn't to be. The Revolver Golden Gods Awards will air for the first time this Saturday on VH1 Classic.   Dio's other lasting contribution to hard rock culture is that he is credited for popularizing the "devil's horn" hand symbol.Dio is survived by Wendy (his second wife) and his adopted son Dan from his first marriage.

A rare Led Zeppelin concert recording was recently discovered at a car trunk sale in England, according to Classic Rockmagazine. Dubbed onto C-D, the recording captures the band at St. Matthews Baths Hall, a converted swimming pool in Ipswich, England in November 1971. No word on if Led Zep will try to purchase the recording or release it.
Alice in Chains fans might want to listen to "Your Decision" backwards. Drummer Sean Kinney says that "Bigfoot exists in that song" and that it's filled with hidden messages. But we're pretty sure singer-guitarist William DuVall is joking when explains that you can hear "Sean is dead" when it's played backwards.
Korn will playing small venues this spring on the Ballroom Blitz Tour, which kicks off May 2nd in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Only seven dates have been announced so far, but 16 more shows will be added soon.
Korn will be debuting tracks from their new album, Korn Three: Remember Who You Are, which is due out this summer.

Scott Weiland blames the wives of his former Velvet Revolver bandmates for causing his split with the supergroup. He tells Details magazine, "When Velvet Revolver first got together it was great... We had all been through the same experiences, and it felt like a gang. But everyone was a rock star. There were petty jealousies. Then the wives got involved with the business of the band, and that was the beginning of the downfall."

"A bit of 'Baba O'Riley,' a bit of 'Pinball Wizard,' a bit of the close of 'Tommy,' a bit of 'Who Are You,' and a bit of 'Won't Get Fooled Again.' It works -- it's quite a saga. A lot of the stuff that we do has that kind of celebratory vibe about it -- we've always tried to make music that allows the audience to go a bit wild if they want to. Hopefully, it will hit the spot."
Here's my condensed version of what it might sound like:

Axl Rose's reps have issued a statement about the scuffle that took place between the Guns n' Roses singer and a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday night. The statement reads, "Mr. Rose, who was about to enter a security checkpoint when the altercation took place, was approached by a group of unchecked and unruly photographers who became aggressive with the singer and female members of the traveling group. [He] was not injured during the unprovoked attack and was able to board his flight without further incident."
A witness captured the scene on a video that seems to contradict that description. It shows a cursing Rose running over to confront a photographer, then landing a solid punch to the shutterbug's head.

Deftones bassist Chi Cheng is still in the hospital after a November automobile accident left him in a coma. Now, there is a donation site to help with his medical bills, and to post updates on his progress.
The site says, "This is our opportunity to give back to someone who has given us so much joy over the years through music. Each little bit that we contribute will accumulate to help make a difference in Chi's recovery."
